Power tariff likely to soar by 64 paisas per unit

The government is likely to increase electricity price by 64 paisas per unit under fuel adjustment.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency has sought 64 paisa per unit increase in tariffs for October 2018 under monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism.

According to the CPPA, the reference cost of electricity was Rs 5.23 per unit, while the price of electricity being provided to the consumers was Rs5.87.

The CPPA said that 9.57 billion units of electricity was produced at a cost of Rs 52 billion in October, while the distribution companies provided 9.30 billion units of electricity to the consumers. The decision to increase the prices of electricity will be made after November 14 hearing.
