A three-days anti-polio campaign in tribal districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) with increased focus on vaccinating every child in Bajaur and Khyber districts will begin today (Monday).
“The three-day campaign will continue from Monday to Wednesday under the supervision of district health officers, local administration and security forces, which will be followed by catch up of missed children and surveillance,” said Extended Programme of Immunisation (EPI) Programme Manager Dr Iftikhar Ali.
A total of 896,205 under-five children will be vaccinated in seven tribal districts by 4,084 teams (3,777 mobile and 215 fixed), besides 92 transit teams, he said.
“There will be increased focus on vaccinating every child, especially in Bajaur and Khyber districts, as two polio cases from Bajaur and one from Khyber have been confirmed after the last anti-polio campaign in September 2018,” he remarked.
He said accelerated efforts had been planned for improving the quality and increase monitoring in Bajaur and Khyber districts during the campaign.
He urged parents to get their children vaccinated against the disease
“We are striving to achieve the goal of zero polio case in tribal districts which will only be possible if we succeed to vaccinate each and every child,” he maintained.
