Human development

Author: Daily Times

Sir: Human Development is one of the top priorities for a country to work on. The real wealth of a nation is… it’s own people. Without developing them the real and actual development is impossible. Pakistan is among those countries which are far away from human development. Pakistan is on 149th position in the list of 189 countries in human development. Pakistan is far behind in human development. There are many reasons due to which this country has low human development. There are three basics dimensions of human Development which are health, education and income.

In income Pakistan is on the top; it’s per capita gross national income is $5,311 highest in South Asian countries. But Pakistan is lagging in education and health. Health is the only and basic thing for a country. A healthy society breeds to a healthy nation and country. There are not sufficient and well managed hospitals with motivated staff in Pakistan. Pakistan doesn’t spend sufficient public resources on human Development and specially on health and education. Nepal and India spend 6 percent and 1.4 percent of the GDP respectively, while in Pakistan only 0.9 percent is spent on health which is too much low. Education system has also the same condition.

Education is also a key element of human development. Education system in Pakistan is abysmal. In Pakistan only 2.2 pc of the GDP is spent on education which is lower than Nepal (3.5) and India. Without education the real development is impossible. We spend much on roads and flyovers but not on education. Therefore we are counted in less developed countries. Our population is increasing day by day but we have not a good policy for human development to be adopted. Imran Khan, the prime minister of Pakistan emphasized in his first speech to the nation that for him Human development is in the first priorities.

The incumbent government of PTI should give much attention to work for it, because without human development the real progress will be a distant dream. When there is educated and healthy society then there is a country prosperous and developed.
