The Ministry of Information on Tuesday removed the acting managing director of state-owned Pakistan Television Network (PTV) in the aftermath of ‘begging’ fiasco.

A notification issued by the ministry stated “the charge of Colonel (rd) Hassan Immad Mohammdi as PTV MD was withdrawn with immediate effect and till further orders”.

The development came a day after the state-run broadcaster issued an apology for running ‘begging’ instead of ‘Beijing’ on screen during Prime Minister Imran Khan’s address to the Central Party School of the Communist Party of China in Beijing. The premier was on a five-day visit to the friendly nation.

The ‘typo’ remained on screen for 20 seconds and received heavy criticism.

In its apology, PTV termed the mistake “a typographical error” and assured of strict action against those responsible. It is pertinent to note that the network had also initiated inquiries against three directors and fired two other employees.
