Pakistan weightlifting squad named for South Asian Games

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWF) selection committee has announced the national squad for next year’s South Asian Games. The Games, featuring athletes of various disciplines from South Asian countries, will be held in Kathmandu, Nepal from March 9-18. The selection committee, comprising Hafiz Imran Butt as chairman and Mohammad Rashed Malik, Mohammad Ilyas Butt, Ali Aslam Chaudhry as members and Amjad Amin Butt (secretary), announced the squad after holding two-day trials here on Oct 30 and 31. A training camp will be held in Islamabad soon for preparing the Kathmandu-bound team.

Squad:Sharjeel Butt and Abdullah Ghafoor (55kg), Mohammad Shahzad and Usman Akbar (61kg), TalhaTalib and Zohaib Butt (67kg), Abu Sufyan and Haris Butt (73kg), Haider Ashfaq and Furqan Anwar (81kg), Arslan Rauf and Umar Rasool (89kg), Mohammad Tahir and Habib Asghar (96kg), Usman Amjad Rathore and Umar Farooq (102kg), Anas Javaid and Saddam Sajid (109kg), Mohammad Noor Dastgir and Abdullah Butt (open weight category).
