KARACHI: Former Pakistan cricket team captain Shahid Afridi has said, “Students are the ones, who will take charge of the country in the future that’s why it is necessary to provide them best possible facilities of learning and education.
This he said at the inauguration ceremony of the renovated building of Department of Mass Communication, Karachi University (KU). Shahid Afridi said that it’s indeed a moment of honor for him to visit the prestigious University of Karachi.
Shahid Afridi Foundation has signed a contract of three years with the department of mass communication KU and assists the department in providing latest and state of the art media facilities including TV and radio newsrooms to the students of the department”, Afridi added
Shahid Afridi also announced to assist in building “Boom Boom” Cricket Stadium at the KU campus.
KU Vice Chancellor also spoke on the occasion and said that major investment on education is pivotal for nation’s uplift. Technology producing education could make us achieve the development goals for the country.
Research plays an important role in upbringing the academic culture of the varsity. A society, which does not produce scholars, scientists and intellectuals, never progresses. “My ultimate objective as the vice chancellor of the University of Karachi (UoK) is to make it one of the leading varsities of the world. Development of the varsities will strengthen our country,” he said
He welcomed Shahid Afridi at the campus and added that Shahid Afridi is one of the greatest super starts Pakistan has ever produced and his fan following is spread worldwide. He thanked Shahid Afridi foundation and lauded the efforts of Prof Dr Seemi Naghmana Tahir, chairman mass communication department UoK for playing an important role in this project.
UoK Department of Mass Communication Chairperson Prof Dr Seemi Naghmana Tahir welcomed Shahid Afridi at the department and thanked Shahid Afridi foundation for their assistance in the renovation of the building of the department. She also lauded the efforts of Tahira Tariq in securing this partnership with Shahid Afridi foundation.
“Our basic aim is to provide state of the art infrastructure and learning facilities to our students of media who are going to serve in the media industry of the country”, Dr Seemi added.
