Sindh High Court (SHC), on Tuesday, instructed an anti-terrorism court (ATC) to wrap up the Perween Rahman murder case within two months.

The SHC directed the ATC to wrap up the case instead of hearing the suspects. During the hearing, the legal branch told the court that there were 29 witnesses in the case out of which 10 had yet to record their statements. “Witnesses have been sent notices and will be provided security,” police officials informed the court.

Perween Rahman, who was the director of the Orangi Pilot Project (OPP), was gunned down by four men in a targeted attack near the Banaras fly-over in Orangi Town in March 2013. She was a vocal activist working against land and water mafia in the metropolis.

Earilier, on October 31, the police had presented before the ATC, Tehreek-e-Taliban member Amjad Hussain who was the prime suspect in the murder case. Khan was arrested from Karachi’s Mangophir vicinity, on the directives the Supreme Court (SC) issued on October 10. According to the police, the suspect confessed to Rahman’s murder during the investigation.
