Over dozen looted in capital in Jan

ISLAMABAD: More than one dozen cases of robberies, mobiles, cash and bike snatching were registered by Islamabad Police in which mostly women were targeted during the month of January.

Increase in mobile Six ladies reported in the respective jurisdiction of Police Stations Shalimar, SabziMandi, Ramna, Khanna and Industrial Area that armed, undefined culprits on bike had forcedly snatched their mobiles, cash and hand bags whereas two cases were reported in Police Station Industrial Area.

More than seven men reported that similar incidents took place in the jurisdiction of Police Station Khanna, Shalimar, Secretariat, Karachi Company, Sabzi Mandi and Lohi Bher where culprits stole their two bikes, cash and a number of mobile phones. Two bikes were lifted from Khanna Police jurisdiction whereas other robberies occurred in the jurisdiction of stated police stations. .

With the enhanced number of crime cases, many of such incidents go unreported, as the victims allege that these are taking place with the collusion of the police. The people generally assume that the criminals behind street crimes do have ‘strong backing’, as without it they cannot even imagine to commit such daring crimes while the police is patrolling almost every time, the dwellers of Islamabad said.

The victims of street crimes told this scribe they that in most cases “we did not even go to the police station to lodge a complaint because it is just a waste of time”. They said that young people on bikes without registration number plates and youth who drive cars late at night are freely moving and looting the people without any fear of being arrested by law-enforcers.
