ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi on Friday said that the ministry was constantly in contact with the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) leadership for resolution of the Aasia Bibi case aftermath via talks.
Protests lead by the TLP erupted countrywide after the Supreme Court of Pakistan acquitted Aasia Bibi – a Christian woman who had been sentenced to death over blasphemy.
Speaking to the media outside the Parliament House, Afridi said that the government was hopeful the matter would be resolved via talks. “We are receiving positive messages from all the stakeholders and we will resolve the matter via talks. We do not want to use force, but if protesters turn to violent ways, then we will have to tame them via use of force.”
He added that the public must follow into the footsteps of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) which teach peace, love and mercy.
“Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) cried for his Ummah’s forgiveness and was mercy for mankind. We should be happy when no blasphemy is proved against someone,” Afridi said. He added that the opposition and the government were on one page over the matter and that Prime Minister Imran Khan was being constantly updated.
