RAWALPINDI: Director-General (DG) Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor on Friday said that it was ‘unfortunate’ that the army was being dragged in Aasia Bibi case.
“Dragging army in every matter is unfortunate. We have been focusing all our energies towards the war against terror for the past 2 decades. Now that we are close to completely wiping out terrorism from the country, our attentions must not be diverted,” Maj Gen Ghafoor said while addressing a press conference.
Speaking about the case of Aasia Bibi – a Christian woman sentenced to death for blasphemy who was acquitted by the Supreme Court earlier this week – Maj Gen Asif said that “Aasia Bibi case is in courts for the last 10 years and the religious parties have staged sit-ins against the Supreme Court verdict, it is a legal matter and it will be better if the law is allowed to run its course on the matter.”

He added that those protesting against Aasia Bibi’s acquittal must refrain from anti-army statements and respect the constitution and law.
DG ISPR continued that every Muslim deeply and utterly loves Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), adding that Islam teaches its followers the message of peace, love and forgiveness and that the public must not deviate from the true message of Islam.
