Mian Sharif never visited Qatar: PTI

Author: By Rana Mushtaq

ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Tuesday remained silent over the “revelation” that Mian Sharif, the father of Prime Mini ster Nawaz Sharif and scion of the Sharif dynasty, never visited Qatar, as his passport was not stamped by any Qatari embassy.

The premier claimed before the Supreme Court in the Panamagate case that his late father had invested a huge sum of money in Qatar. However, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) claimed that Mian Sharif’s passport was not even stamped by the Qatari government at the time the business was started.

Talking to Daily Times, PTI spokesman Fawad Chaudhry said that his party had documents – that would be presented before the five-member larger bench – regarding Mian Sharif’s passport and his visits abroad. “As per our record, Mian Sharif neither visited Qatar in his life nor Qatar’s visa was stamped on his passport.”

He questioned how Mian Sharif could do business worth billions of rupees with the princes of Qatar and other members of the royal family without even going there.

When Daily Time contacted Daniyal Aziz, the spokesperson for the Sharif family, he did not respond to the question as kept quiet, ensuring that he did not created further problems for the Sharifs. The scribe also contacted Law Minister Zahid Hamid but he also decided not to respond to the query.

The same question was posed to the officials of the Interior and Foreign ministries, but they also did not respond.

It is worth-mentioning here that the premier had filed a writ petition in the apex court, stating that his father had done business with members of the Qatari royal family, and he, as a result, purchased the London flats.
