KARACHI: Provincial Taxation and Narcotics Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla on Wednesday directed concerned officers of the department to increase efforts to achieve their assigned targets.

The minister was presiding over a meeting of all Excise Taxation and Narcotics Control (ET&NC) regional directors at his office. ET&NC Director General Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui told the meeting that so far the ET& NC department had collected Rs 24110.098 million, with the entire current fiscal year target being set at Rs 52610 million. He expressed hope that the department would in all probability achieve the target before the end of the relevant period.

Chawla expressed his satisfaction over the current position of recovery and directed the DG to fulfill the shortage of staff where it was needed in order to achieve the set target. He also directed that immediate proceedings be finalised for the promotion of eligible officers and officials so that they might perform their duties with more dedication.

The meeting also reviewed the department’s development schemes with the provincial minister asking for submissions of a detailed report in this regard at the earliest.

Chawla remarked during the meeting that “Unless we worked hard, we could not achieve our targets and for the purpose we had to work together with the spirit and dedication as well.”
