City police on Saturday arrested an elderly man for allegedly raping and cutting off genitals of a four-year-old girl.

Rescue 1122 officials, after being informed by the area residents, shifted the child to Vehari District Headquarter Hospital where her condition was said to be stable.

Police said that the four-year-old nomad girl (name withheld) was playing near her hut from where 60-years old Ghulam Fareed coaxed her to go with him after offering her candies.

Area residents said that Ghulam Fareed had come to the town a few days ago and was living under the platform of the railway station.

Victim’s grandmother Nasreen Bibi said that the minor girl, who is a native of Faisalabad, had come to meet her. “She came only for two days and was ready to leave when that beast took away my daughter,” she wailed. Family of the child demanded strict punishment for the suspect.

City Police Station SHO Rana Mohammad Akram said that a case had been registered against the suspect. He said that initial investigation revealed that the suspect was involved in various incidents of child rape and violence. He added that the suspect was earlier set free many times because he pretended to be a mentally retarded man. He further said that the investigation into the incident was underway and strict punishment would be given to the suspect.
