New DG ISI takes charge today

Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar retired on Thursday after reaching the age of superannuation.

Newly appointed spymaster Lt Gen Asim Munir will formally take over the charge on Friday (today). He belongs to Jhang district and is a Hafiz-e-Quran. His father is also a retired military officer.

Lt Gen Munir has rich experience in the field of intelligence. He has served as head of the Military Intelligence as well as commander of the ISI in Peshawar in year 2000. He also served as military attaché at Pakistan Embassy in Washington and Pakistan Embassy in Saudi Arabia during his military career spanning over three decades and is considered as one of the most professional and finest military officers.
