KARACHI: A 150-bed mother and child hospital will be set up in Mirpur Sakro in Sindh.
This was announced by International Federation for Mother and Child Health (IFMCH) Chairman Dr. Saleemullah Khan while addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club on Wednesday.
He said that a woman dies almost every hour while giving birth in Pakistan, which is an alarming situation. The situation led us to come forward and do something practically instead of criticising aimlessly, he added.
IFMCH has set up an outpatient department (OPD) in Mirpur Sakro in Sindh, where about 7,000 patients had been examined and provided free-of-cost medicines worth Rs25 million. We have also offered the facility of blood screening with the help of laboratories since 2015.
The charity has been planning to set up hospitals, maternity homes, train healthcare professionals; and launch health awareness programs.
He said that the IFMCH intends to run health awareness programs to educate and empower women to make right health choices especially in colleges and universities so that the future generation can have better health awareness. Hopefully, it will be operational by year-end, he added.
