GUJRANWALA: Opposition members of the Gujranwala Municipal Corporation on Saturday protested in the meeting over inclusion of allegedly illegally occupied state land in the agenda of the corporation.
During the meeting, Municipal Corporation (MC) Mayor Sheikh Sarwat Ikram addressed members, however on the point of occupied state land allegedly by land grabbers, opposition leaders including union council chairmen Sabir Butt and Yahya Butt protested and chanted slogans against him and deputy mayor. They said that the matter of occupied state land was pending with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and could not be decided at other forum(s). The opposition leaders tore copies of the agenda.
Police bust gang of three thieves
The Kotwali police on Saturday busted a female gang for allegedly pick pocketing and thieving. Three accused thieves have confessed their crimes before police officers who have also recovered stolen cash, cell phones, gold ornaments from them.
Two men killed for resisting armed robbery
Two persons were killed on Saturday while resisting armed robbery in Sadhoki area of Gujranwala. Reportedly, three assailants broke into a general store and snatched cash.
Meanwhile, shopkeeper Basharat and his nephew Usama resisted them. Robbers opened fire on them, and consequently they died on the spot.
Local police have started investigation.
