The provincial government announced that doctors will now be recruited without written tests in order to overcome the shortage of medicals practitioners in Sindh.

Reportedly, Sindh Chief Minister (CM) advisor Murtaza Wahab said that the decision was made by the government in order to overcome the shortage of doctors. He said that doctors would be recruited on the basis of interviews instead. “Almost 1500 doctors will be recruited without the need to pass a written test,” announced Barrister Wahab.

Wahab said that the decision was taken in order to save time and provide relief to the public. “Taking a test through the Sindh Public Commission is time-consuming. The cabinet has already approved the recruitment of doctors,” he said.

The recruitment process will begin immediately with experts and MBBS doctors hired on a contractual basis. The doctors will later have to clear the written examination.

Last year, the Sindh Health Department recruited more than 5,400 doctors on merit in order to strengthen the health delivery system in the province.

There were 6000 vacancies in the province and all the doctors were recruited on merit. During that time, provincial health minister Dr Sikander Mandhro had visited hospitals and inquired about the needs of the staff employed there.
