CDA legal adviser resigns ‘under pressure’

Author: Staff Report

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) Legal Advisor Kashif Ali Malik has resigned from his post as legal adviser of the civic agency on Thursday.

A letter of resignation forwarded to CDA Chairman Afzal Latif, mentioned that CDA legal adviser resigned due to personnel reasons and it was indeed a great honour for “me while representing the civic agency in front of honourable courts”.

He was representing the civic agency as legal adviser since eight months.

A source in CDA informed that Afzal Latif was facing pressure from the top brass of the Ministry of Law & Justice since many weeks and the legal adviser presented his resignation owing to immense pressure from the chairman to vacate his post.

Kashif Ali Malik is the nephew of politician Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan. A source in the civic agency informed that Ali Malik benefited CDA on legal grounds in courts in various important cases due to his professionally and academically sound profile. But pressurising him is the fresh case of political victimisation of the government due to his relations with Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan. He added that the Law Ministry already sent a summary of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) party member Advocate Shahid Naseem Gondal as the new legal adviser of the department.

It should be mentioned that Shahid Naseem Gondal is a member of PTI and participated in general election 2018 from PP67 Mandi Bahauddin on the party ticket.

Talking exclusively to Daily Times, Malik negates the claims of pressure on him though vacating his post as legal adviser. Meanwhile, he added that I am a professional lawyer and have a rich reputation in the field that is why I am not willing to involve in political equations.”
