A two-day international symposium on Creating A Water Secure Pakistan will begin in Islamabad today (Friday).
The event will be held under the aegis of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
President Arif Alvi will inaugurate the moot while the concluding session will be chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar. Jurists and experts in water resource management and researchers from different countries will present their research papers in the symposium.
Themes pertaining to legal aspects of Indus Basin, construction and financing of dams and reservoirs and management of water resources will be discussed in the moot.
CJP has also started a dam fund and he himself is collecting money to build it.
On September 24, the Supreme Court renamed Diamar Bhasha and Mohmand Dam Fund as Supreme Court, Prime Minister Diamar Bhasha and Mohmand Dam Fund.
Hearing a case regarding the name change of the dam fund in the apex court on Thursday, the CJP ordered to write SC’s name first before Prime Minister Imran Khan.
“The SC is an institution, while the PM is a personality,” remarked CJP.
If PM wants to join hands for the contribution of funds for the dam, we do not have any objection, said CJP during the hearing.
The prime minister took permission from me before changing dam fund’s name, not from the bench, remarked CJP.
Earlier on June 9, Justice Saqib Nisar while hearing a case about the construction of dams in the country, at Karachi registry of the apex court, remarked that, “If the four brothers are not agreed over the dam then what is an alternate solution,” vowed to address the water shortage.
