CS urges NGOs to collaborate with govt for Thar rehabilitation drive

Sindh Chief Secretary (CS) Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah appreciated the role of nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) in helping people out and invited them to join hands with the Sindh government for a month-long rehabilitation drive in Thar.

He was presiding over a meeting of prominent NGO representatives on Wednesday. Welcoming the representatives, CS noted that the role of NGOs in rehabilitation of Thar was commendable. CS Mumtaz said that in addition to the provision of routinely rehabilitation services, the Sindh government was planning on collaborating with NGOs for a month to initiate a special rehabilitation drive for Thar. He said that under the initiative, food, water and health services would be provided to the residents of Thar. He then invited the NGO representatives to join hands with the provincial government for this cause.

Sindh Red Crescent Chairman Shahnaz Shahid Hamid offered to furnish 11 ambulances including a fully equipped mobile dispensary during the meeting. Pakistan Medical Association secretary general Dr Qaiser Sajjad shared that PMA would depute 22 male and female doctors for the ambulances. Other participants also promised to partake in the campaign by taking up relief tasks including the provision of medicines with cooperation of pharmaceutical companies.

Rotary Humanitarian Foundation chairman Faiz Khan, eminent social leader Aziz Memon, Essa Laboratories CEO Dr Farhan Essa Abdullah, Dr Tayeb Asim and other relevant stakeholders attended the meeting.
