ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday welcomed the enlistment of Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA) into the global ban list by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
The addition was made yesterday by the UNSC’s 1267 Sanctions committee, where they banned the group’s entities and individuals and decided to freeze its assets and enforce a travel ban.
This suggestion was given by Pakistan when it proscribed the group last year.
It is pertinent to mention here that the JuA operates from Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province and has reportedly claimed responsibility for terrorist activities in Pakistan.
The UN website terms JuA as a splinter group to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and an ISIS association.
