Villagers demand renovation of school amid lack of resources

Hundreds of residents of Kot Kesho area of Gujranwala on Tuesday staged a demonstration in front of the deputy commissioner’s (DC) office for demanding an up gradation and renovation of a school building.

Meanwhile, protesters chanted full-throat slogans against concerned education officials while holding placards and banners inscribed with their demands.

They alleged that a primary school with only three classrooms was available in their village, and consequently many students have been forced to study under the ‘open sky’.

They further claimed that the school’s building needed renovation and reparation while cracks have been splitting its walls.

They appealed to the Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar and Gujranwala DC to take notice of their issue and order construction of the school’s new building.

Police recover citizen, arrest five kidnappers

The Gujranwala police on Tuesday recovered a citizen, who was kidnapped for ransom, and arrested five suspected kidnappers.

During a press conference, City Police Officer (CPO) Dr Moeen Masood told the media that a factory owner Sardar Muhammad was kidnapped about five days ago and kidnappers demanded Rs 10.5 million from his heirs for his release.

Meanwhile, he directed police officers to investigate into the matter.

Subsequently, officers raided on a suspected hideout at Maafiwala area and recovered the abducted and arrested five kidnappers including Ahmad Raza, Shahzeb Qayyum and Azher Ali.

During preliminary investigation, the accused confessed their crime.

In another case, the Khiali police arrested three suspects over their alleged involvement in a double murder case.

Reportedly, they murdered two youths Qaiser and Zaigham about 20 days ago in Islampura area of the district.

Post-mortem report of a housemaid confirms torture before her murder

The autopsy report for 10-year-old housemaid identified as Zarina has been released, confirming wounds of torture on her body and a deep injury on her head.

She worked in Amanat Warriach’s home situated in Iqbal Town area.

Her body was found hanging at his home about 14 days ago.

Meanwhile, Warriach told police that she had committed suicide, but his claim has been denied by her parents who alleged that she was murdered.

Police have started further investigation into the incident.

ADC vows crackdown against illegal hoardings after 10 days

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Rabia Riasat on Tuesday reiterated the district administration’s resolve to launch a crackdown against illegal billboards and advertisement hoardings after the deadline of 10 days.

She warned billboards’ and hoardings’ owners to remove their boards within 10 days or otherwise, a stern action would be taken against them.

Furthermore, she asserted that cases would be lodged against owners who do not comply with the administration’s orders.
