LARKANA: Only four teachers are posted to educate as many as 350 male and female students in Government Primary School at the village Deenpur of union council Gaji Dero, near Mohenjo Daro, a team of journalists visited the school on Monday and came to know about the shortage of teachers in the school.

The imposition of Education Emergency in Sindh has so far failed to bring any reforms or improvement in the educational institutions throughout the province. The building of the Government Primary School had become dilapidated and was without electricity and the students were getting education under the shade of trees. As per global recommendations, one teacher is to be posted for 25 students for quality education but here in this school, one teacher is giving education to approximately 90 students.

The teachers of the school, on the condition of anonymity, told the journalists that during the sizzling heat of June and July, the students are getting education under the trees. They further said that many of the parents have shifted their children to other schools but students from less privileged backgrounds are forced to get their education in this school despite unavailability of required basic facilities.

Head Master of the school, Ghulam Murtaza Abbasi, confessed before the journalists that the standard of primary education has declined in the province due to the shortage of teachers and unavailability of fundamental facilities like drinking water, furniture, electricity and large number of students in each classroom.

Education Officer Taluka Dokri, Muhammad Usman Khokhar, said that he has taken over the charge a week ago. He said that he will visit the affected school soon and will try to resolve their issues including shortage of teachers, provision of furniture and electricity.
