Pay attention to climate change

Author: Daily Times

The world media labs are now talking about the serious report on climate change released by the IPCC [the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change]. The report has just warned of the far-reaching consequences like deluge, drought, wildfire and scarcity of food to name a few. The scientists warned that “there is only a dozen years for global warming to be kept to a maximum of 1.5C, beyond which even half a degree will significantly worsen the risks of drought, floods, extreme heat and poverty for hundreds of millions of people”.

The human beings triggered by the ongoing revolution in technology have started spreading their wings across all parts of the Planet, almost leaving behind the basic rudiments related to Mother Nature like planting trees and keeping the environment clean.

Against these ongoing developments, the countries the world over should come together and forge strong plans regarding these issues keeping the IPCC report in mind. The natural metamorphosis has been happening almost long time now. As one good example, Korkai, a beautiful hamlet in Tuticorin of Tamil Nadu was once the beautiful port area of the Pandyan Kingdom and due to the natural phenomena of seawater receding from the area, Korkai has now become inland, away from Bay of Bengal. This is just one example; I am sure, of how the natural disasters like this have long been happening. More to the point, my native areas like Tuticorin, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari are home to rigorous agricultural/fishing activities and natural resources/vistas. I am always doing my bit, encouraging such activities and supporting those engaged in them.

Apart from denuclearizing, the international community should work together towards a new green world and making the Planet the safest-ever haven for all.
