ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lifetime supremo Nawaz Sharif on Monday thanked the public for supporting his party during the by-elections 2018, saying that the polls are an indicator of Nawaz league’s soaring popularity.

Speaking to the media outside the accountability court, the former prime minister lauded the public for supporting PML-N in by-elections. “I want to thank the public for supporting us through thick and thin. Our victory in Punjab and performance across country is evidence that the future is PML-N’s. People are already tired of PTI in just 50 days.”

“The public came out and voted for the PML-N despite sanctions on party leadership. I was jailed, Shehbaz Sharif is in NAB’s custody and we all know how Khawaja Saad Rafique is being treated. All of this has only made the connection between the party and public stronger,” Nawaz continued.

He also criticised the PTI government for failing to fulfill its promises saying that PML-N government had produced tangible results in comparison. “In our 5-year tenure, the value of dollar did not rise above Rs104. The public was happy and we were working continuously to improve things, but the current government has broken all records. The dollar now stands at Rs135,” the former premier said.

According to the unofficial results from 11 National Assembly constituencies, both PML-N and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) managed to win 4 seats each, while PML-Quaid won 2 and Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal won 1 seat.

The results for provincial assembly seats across the country saw the ruling PTI lead by 11. In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, PTI bagged 6 seats, PML-N claimed 1, while Awami National Party (ANP) secured 2 seats. In Punjab, PML-N beat PTI marginally with 6 seats to 5 respectively. Both the parties, however, failed to win any seats in Sindh and Balochistan.
