Sindh Minister of Education and Literacy Syed Sardar Ali Shah, in an unprecedent way to restore the general public’s confidence in public education system, has enrolled his daughter and two nieces in the Government Girls Pilot (Miran) Secondary and Primary School in Hirabad area of Hyderabad city.

Reportedly, the Minister, accompanied by his daughter Kaif-ul-Wara and two nieces Uneza and Aliza, visited the school where he himself submitted their admission forms for grade IV and VI, respectively.

The Minister was briefed by the school’s Headmistress Rabia Akhtar about the state of facilities, academic affairs, and proficiency of teachers.

In his talk to the media in front of the school, he said that he has fulfilled ‘what he had pledged in the Sindh Assembly.’

“The change begins at home with personal actions rather than empty rhetoric,” he said, adding that now he has owned government-run schools in true spirit and essence.

He further said that after enrolling his own children in a government-run school, he would be able to question government school teachers who had enrolled their children in private schools.

“I hope that my move would prove to be a good development for uplifting quality of education in a certain way,” he said, adding

He believed that following his example, if teachers transferred their children to the government-run schools, the standard of education would certainly improve.

“It is always easy to criticise any system, but it’s difficult to formulate effective reforms for implementing change in the society,” he said.

Moreover, he said that he would issue orders for his department’s employees to follow the suit, and asserted that it was not a matter of “imposition” rather conscience for others to follow.

“I consider it a first step towards restoration of dilapidated system of education in the province,” he added.
