KHAIRPUR: The social activist, writer and a development practitioner Saira Ali, who has been working for social justice mainly in Khairpur, has been awarded a certificate by the US government for her outstanding work.

Previously, she was honoured with an appreciation award from the former US Ambassador to Pakistan David Hale. She earned the award as she has been organising community discussions, meetings and focus group discussions (FGDs) amongst female youths hailing from different localities of Sindh on core issues of honour killings, women rights, sexual harassment, peace and harmony, civic and fundamental rights in the light of the Constitution of Pakistan.

In such meetings, she has been guiding women about first aid, police reporting, FIR lodging, prosecution, medical examination, forensics, and post-trauma rehabilitation processes.

Thereby, she has strengthened, capacitated and motivated a large number of women to strive for their rights secured by the Constitution of Pakistan. Pakistan has been tremendously fortunate to have wonderful female role models who have impressively struggled for every inch of their way, winning Nobel Prizes and Oscars, and put their effort to elevate functionality of our society as a whole.

SALU announces admissions in evening programmes, entry test on Nov 17-18

Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) Evening Programme Director Prof Dr Mumtaz Ali Junejo Professor on Saturday vowed to ensure merit and transparency in the admission process of the evening programme. He asserted that admissions in the evening programmes were offered purely on the basis of merit rather than self-finance basis.

Admissions are open in the Institute of English Language and Literature, Business Administration, Public Administration, Computer Science and Commerce. Meanwhile, SALU’s spokesperson Muhammad Ibrahim Khokhar outlined admissions on merit as “one of the fundamental policies of current SALU’s Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Parveen Shah” regarding right of access to education for all. He said that evening programmes would assist professionals and candidates who could not attend morning classes.

Besides, candidates who would be denied admissions in morning programmes due to limited number of seats could avail an opportunity to study in the evening programmes. Forms for the evening and morning programmes are available at specific branches of the Habib Bank Limited (HBL), and the entry test would be conducted on November 17 and 18.
