The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), in collaboration with United Nations Population Fund and the Embassy of Switzerland, launched a coffee table book at the Swiss ambassador’s residence on Friday.
Titled A Journey through Resilient Pakistan, the book features stories and photographs of extraordinary Pakistanis who showed leadership in crisis situations and resilience in the face of disasters.
Welcoming the guests at his residence, Swiss Ambassador Thomas Kolly lauded the effort to document such stories.
“Every picture of this book shares a story of dedication, inspiration and resilience of the Pakistani people,” Thomas Kolly said. He also spoke about the excellent cooperation between Pakistan and Switzerland in the field of Disaster Risk Management.
NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Umar Mahmood Hayat said, “These remarkable stories will serve as an inspiring reminder of how individuals can make a difference and how in the face of even some of the most daunting challenges, courage and leadership can pave the way to greater peace and progress.”
The author of the book, Bilal Agha said the stories would take the readers out of their comfort zone.
“It will introduce them to those extraordinary Pakistanis who have faced disasters and catastrophes and women who have stood against the tribal and feudal systems still prevalent in our society to play leadership roles. All these unsung heroes have rebuilt their lives and contributed to the society as agents of change,” he said.
A short documentary on the book was also aired for the audience.
A number of diplomats including ambassadors, high commissioners, representatives of United Nations bodies and government officials attended the event.
