RAWALPINDI: A decision has been taken to upgrade the emergency departments of all government hospitals in district Rawalpindi.

According to media reports, the decision for upgrading the emergency departments of all the hospitals has been taken to address day to day increasing complaints from patients.

State of the art machinery and equipment will be provided in the emergency departments of district headquarters hospital and Tehsil headquarters hospitals in all the seven Tehsils of district Rawalpindi in line with the upgradation programme. Trained doctors, nurses and paramedical staff will be deployed in the emergency departments.

Additional allowances will be granted to the doctors and staff to be deployed in evening and night duties in emergency departments in hospitals. A special counter will be set up for their complete monitoring so that a rapport could be forged between doctors, patients, duty staff and family members of the patients.

Liver transplant surgery centre in PIMS: The liver transplant surgery centre set up in the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) five years ago has not been put to operation so far.

The PIMS liver transplant centre has not been made operational due to non deployment of staff. The hospital administration had sent a summary to Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif in connection with the appointment of staff but the reply from the PM house is still awaited on this count.

The state of the art machinery and modern equipment worth Rs200 million has been dumped in the store and has not been installed at the centre. According to sources, some of the parts of the machinery have also been stolen from the store.

As many as 95 appointments of staff members were required to make the centre functional.

Vice Chancellor SZABIST, Dr Javed Akram, said that as soon as the summary sent to PM in connection with appointments is approved, the staff will be inducted.

Community groups for raising awareness: The Ministry of Human Rights is going to form small community groups for raising awareness on social issues while steps will also be taken to include human rights in the curriculum.

According to a ministry official on Friday, these groups will create awareness on health, disability, gender sensitisation and rights of senior citizens.

The main objective of this initiative is to work in coordination and to support the efforts of each other in the promotion of human rights in the country.
