A controversial dam

Author: Daily Times

The honorable CJP Mian Saqib Nisar stated that Kalabagh dam guarantees survival, security of Pakistan and it would also be constructed after Bhasha Dam. The CJP also warned of invoking article 6 against dam critics.

After all these, the critics against CJP are on the rise as well as the people of Sindh have rejected honorable CJP’s statement regarding Kalabagh dam. The people of Sindh are protesting CJP’s statement across the province. On the other hand, the people of the province are facing threatening water crisis.

Due to the shortage of water in Indus River, hardly 30% land could be cultivated this year. However, the statements of honorable CJP regarding controversial Kalabagh dam were incomprehensible because three of four provincial assemblies of the country, Sindh, KP and Baluchistan had already passed resolutions against the construction of controversial Kalabagh Dam.

Even though, it is internationally accepted that no dam should be constructed without consent of the majority of people. In Pakistan, majority of people is against the construction of this controversial dam. Furthermore, the people of Sindh will never allow anyone to construct Kalabagh dam or other dam on Indus River.

The people of Sindh warn if Kalabagh Dam or any other dam constructed on the Indus, there would be negative impact. The higher authorities are requested not to revive Kalabagh dam in order to construct it without consent of the people of Sindh. The government must also provide proper share of water to the people of Sindh so that they could not face more water crisis in the future.
