By-elections need to proceed with immense discipline: IGP

The implementation of the code of conduct devised by the Election Commission of Pakistan during by-elections should be ensured at all cost in the respective districts while police officers and officials should perform their duties impartially and should proceed against the persons who are found guilty of aerial firing, display of weapons or violation of Loud Speaker Act.

The facility of Forensic Science Laboratory should be utilised for investigation in heinous crimes like murder, abuse and ransom. Inspector General Police Muhammad Tahir further said that registration of First Information Reports in police stations should be ensured while people should be dealt with courtesy and good manners in police stations so that their issues may be resolved and a relation of trust between the police and the public may be evolved.

IGP Muhammad Tahir expressed these views while addressing the Regional Police Officers as well as the District Police Officers via video link conference at Central Police Office on Wednesday.

He added that officers and officials deployed on sensitive polling stations should remain on high alert and perform their duties with full commitment and patriotism and all these officers and officials deputed on polling duties should be provided with fresh food and water.

He said that a crackdown campaign under the supervision of DPOs against criminals of murder, dacoity and kidnapping for ransom, especially those involved in child abuse should be speeded up. He said that punishment and reward, observation of merit and process of transparency should be given top preference and refresher courses with training workshops should be held for enhancing efficiency of investigation officers.

All RPOs briefed the IGP about security plans of by-election and the overall situation of crimes in their respective ranges and further told that police have completed all arrangements to conduct peaceful elections in all constituencies of by-election in the province.

The security measures devised with respect to standard operating procedures have been ensured in all election constituencies.

The IG Punjab while directing the officers said that not only a peaceful environment during elections should be ensured but also action should be taken against those individuals who violate rules and regulations of elections after the results of their candidates.

The IGP also directed all DPOs to ensure a weekly parade under their supervision in police lines of their districts in which inspection of vehicles should be supervised and welfare of force should be ensured. He said that a weekly parade report should be furnished to the operation branch regularly.

He emphasised upon efficient monitoring of Information Technology based projects like front desk, 8787 IGP complaint management system, Police Station Record Management System and Criminal Record Office.

IG Punjab moreover said that modern training and refresher courses should be conducted on regular basis in order to enhance their efficiency and capabilities in respective regions and districts, so that officers may follow modern parameters of policing and perform their duties with full professional commitment.
