Lt Gen Asim Munir named new ISI chief

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), military’s media wing, on Wednesday announced the appointment of Lieutenant General Asim Munir as the new director general (DG) of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

Formerly the head of Military Intelligence, Gen Asim was recently promoted to the rank of lieutenant general. He would take charge of his new role after the retirement of outgoing ISI chief Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar on Oct 25.

The army also assigned Lt Gen Nadeem Zaki as commander of Mangla Corps, a primary strike formation of the Pakistan Army.

Lt Gen Shaheen Mazher was appointed as commander of the strategic Peshawar Corps, responsible for the tribal areas and the border with Afghanistan. Three other officers were assigned to staff positions at the General Headquarters (GHQ). Lt Gen Azhar Saleh Abbasi was appointed as chief of logistics staff, Lt Gen Abdul Aziz as the new military secretary and Lt Gen Waseem Ashraf as IG Arms.
