Govt went to IMF because of severe economic crisis: Sindh governor

Sindh Governor, Dr Imran Ismail, on Tuesday, said that the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf (PTI) government had only started talks with the IMF due to severe economic crisis in the country and no loan was yet received.

The governor, while talking to journalists outside the shrine of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar, said that the PTI government never said that it would not take loans but it only said that the government would try its level best to avoid foreign loans.

The governor offered Fateha at the shrine of Hazrat Shahbaz Qalandar and he was accompanied by PTI Sindh president Sardar Amir Bux Bhutto and PTI Sindh general secretary Halim Adil Shaikh.

Talking about the construction of dams in the country, Governor Imran Ismail said that it was the need of hour to construct dams in the country. He said that the country will prosper if more dams are constructed.

The governor also addressed journalists at the residence of local PTI leader, Sardar Hakim Ali Noohani, in Sehwan town. During the address, he said that governor house was vacated and no one was living in governor house these days.

The convoy of Governor Sindh was passing through Sehwan city when it faced an unusual car accident which led to injuries of the staff of governor. Three officials of the protocol, Irfan Saood, Jahan Shir and Rehan Soomro, were injured in the accident.

According to the Sehwan police, the accident happened when a high speed vehicle hit the protocol of governor and the injured officials were sent to Sehwan hospital for treatment. The police further said that the accident happened at the Sehwan toll plaza.

Governor Sindh Imran Ismail also visited Kotri and presided a high-level meeting of the members of Kotri Association of Trade and Industries (KATI) in Kotri.

Speaking to the business community, Governor Ismail said that the Prime Minister Imran Khan has asked the people to wait for 100 days before criticizing the government. He further said that the government never said that new Pakistan will be made in first 100 days but, he said, people would start feeling a change in policies in these 100 days.

He said that the government has a good team of economists and it will introduce better economic policies to cope with the existing economic crisis of the country. He said that it was a fact that country was facing gas crises and it was necessary to increase the gas rates but poor people will face lowest burden of this increase in prices.

Governor Sindh also visited the University of Sindh Jamshoro on Tuesday. Governor Ismail, while addressing a ceremony of distribution of certificates among top ten students at social sciences faculty in the University of Sindh, said that the history suggests that those nations were not developed where people had given the priority to their personal interests over national interests. He further said that it was the responsibility of young students to play their role in the development of country.

Governor Sindh also directed the officials to remove the protocol and asked the police officials to perform their duties at concerned police stations because the protection of public was more important than his protection.

The governor distributed certificates among 25 top students of social sciences faculty at the University. Vice Chancellor University of Sindh Jamshoro, Professor Dr Fateh Mohammad Burfat also addressed the ceremony. Governor Sindh also appreciated the performance of Dr Fateh Mohammad Burfat.
