Three family members die in motorcycle crash

KHAIRPUR: Three men lost their lives while a woman sustained critical wounds on Tuesday in a fatal road accident in the precinct of the Baberloi police station in Khairpur.

Reportedly, four members of a family including Allah Dad Shambani, his wife Sahib Khatoon and their two sons Ghulam Fareed and Sadam Hussain were travelling on a motorcycle when it slipped near Baberloi bypass. Resultantly, Shambani and his two sons died on the spot, whereas Khatoon sustained severe injuries.

The Baberloi police rushed to the spot and shifted them to the Civil Hospital in Khairpur for medical attention.

Later, deceased’s bodies were shifted to Fakirabad village of Rohri subdivision for funeral. Meanwhile, police claimed that their motorcycle slipped due to over speeding.

SALU students receive laptops

The Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Dr Parveen Shah on Tuesday distributed laptops amongst qualified undergraduate students in the fourth phase of the Prime Minister’s (PM) laptop scheme. Reportedly, she asserted that 680 students of various departments were entitled to receive laptops.

While addressing the ceremony, VC shah appreciated efforts of the previous government for launching the free laptop scheme and appealed to the incumbent government to continue the scheme for facilitating students who belonged to poverty-stricken families. She also motivated students to pursue opportunities of research and development for betterment of the society.

Besides, Registrar Prof Dr Syed Asad Raza Abidi, Media Coordinator Muhammad Ibrahim Khokhar and Imran Soomro were also present on the occasion. Prof Dr Maqsood Zia, Focal Person of the programme, revealed that so far about 4,000 laptops have been distributed amongst graduate/undergraduate students. Laptop Distribution Scheme Head Syed Fayaz Hussain Shah facilitated the event.

Scholars present thesis in PhD and MS research in SALU

Four research scholars from the faculty of Computer Sciences on Tuesday presented their thesis in the Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) in Khairpur. A PhD scholar Syed Safdar Ali Shah presented his research thesis on “The Framework for the recognition of animated text-based CAPTCHA’s using contemporary approaches” under the supervision of Dr. Riaz Ahmed Shaikh and Dr. Rafaqat Husain Arain. Later, an MS student Naveed Ahmed Abro presented his thesis on “The comperative analysis of semantic web databases based on feasibility and performance” under the supervision of Prof Abdul Wahid Shaikh.

Another MS student Niaz Husain Jatoi presented his research work on “Impact of Social Network on Learning Styles” under the supervision of Dr Hidayatullah Shaikh while MS scholar Nazan Mahar presented her research work on “Point Operation and OTSU’s Method” under the supervision of Dr Riaz Ahmed Shaikh.

The dean of the faculty of Physical Sciences Professor Dr Mumtaz Hussain Mahar presided over the seminars and declared them successful. Dr Mahar emphasised on the significance of research in the field of computer sciences. A large number of scholars and university officials attended seminars.
