LAHORE: Usually it is a good experience to listen to music while travelling in public transport, but Lahoris have demanded the Punjab government and the Punjab Transport Authority to ban Indian movies and songs in public transport and take strict action against such activity.

Talking to daily times on Saturday, the citizens claimed that drivers of public vehicles had installed sound amplification systems in their vehicles and they did not even bother about women commuters, as sometimes they play vulgar songs.

They were of the view that the government and the transport authority should take strict action against them. They said that drivers of public vehicles play songs usually at the schools timings when mostly students, including girls, travel in buses, wagons and other public transport to reach their destinations, which was a shameful act. “The government should carry out a crackdown on drivers playing songs in public vehicles at school timings when most of the citizens use public transport for travelling to reach from one place to another,” they added.

In this connection, a complaint has been forwarded to authorities concerned requesting them to ban Indian movies and songs in public transport, while the Punjab Transport Authority has also written a letter to the Section Officer (GR-IV) Government of the Punjab S&GAD, Chief Secretary’s complaint Cell Lahore.

The letter reads, “In response thereto, secretaries have submitted reports wherein, they stated that during traffic checking, action has been taken against public service vehicles regarding displaying of movies and music through televisions, Video Cassette Recording (VCR), Digital Versatile Disc (DVD), Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) and tape recorders. These instruments have been removed from public service vehicles, and heavy fine was imposed on defaulters with the directive not to install such instruments again in any of public service vehicle, which create inconvenience for commuters.”

According to the Punjab Local Government Act 2013, playing music loudly, beating a drum, blowing a horn or other instruments in public service vehicles in and around a hospital or an educational institution is prohibited.
