The annual month-long Oxford Book Fair, organised by Oxford University Press (OUP), has commenced and will continue till 7 November 2018 at the Oxford bookshops in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, Rahimyar Khan, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Quetta, Hyderabad, and Sukkur. It will also be held for a shorter duration at Larkana, Khairpur, and Jamshoro. The much-awaited yearly event offers huge discounts on an extensive range of books, for both children and adults, covering diverse subjects. The fair draws a large number of visitors including book-lovers, children, booksellers, librarians, and students and teachers from schools, colleges, and universities. The selection of books featured at the book fair includes both locally published and imported children’s books, English Language Teaching material, reference books, and school and higher education textbooks. Well-researched publications on international affairs, politics, history, anthropology, women’s studies, art, literature, as well as biographies and memoirs of prominent Pakistani personalities will also be showcased. Oxford’s hallmark English and bi-lingual dictionaries and thesauruses—a perennial favourite with customers—will be available at special, reduced prices. Books that will be of particular interest to people visiting the fair this year include: Governing the Ungovernable: Institutional Reforms for Democratic Governance by Ishrat Husain; Mazameen e Sir Syed Ahmed Khan; A Cry for Justice: Empirical Insights from Balochistan by Kaiser Bengali; and Mr and Mrs Jinnah by Sheela Reddy. Children will enjoy browsing through exciting new readers like Pani ki Kahani by Sarwat Mohiuddin which educates children about the water cycle in a fun manner; Nazmein, Pahelian, aur Nasarparay by Shanul Haq Haqqee; and Graphic Stories: Adib Rizvi by Shahbano Bilgrami which gives an account of the life of the founder of the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT). As part of the book fair, a lucky draw and lucky dip is also being organized at select Oxford bookshops.
