CHITRAL: An avalanche hit the northern region of Chitral last night as a result of which several houses were destroyed.
14 dead bodies were recovered from the site while 11 injured people were rescued and moved to civil hospital.
More than twenty houses were destroyed by the avalanche which struck the village of Sher Shall in Garam Chashma Tehsil.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the incident. The PM has given directions to all relevant federal and provincial authorities to reach the site and undertake rescue and relief work.
Chitral District Administration told media that rescue operations have been started to take out the people who are still trapped under the rubble.
National Disaster Management Authority has been directed to coordinate in the rescue efforts and arrange necessary medical care, food and shelter for the people.
