Police arrest drug peddler, seize 40 bottles of alcohol

Police on Sunday arrested a drug peddler and seized 40 bottles of alcohol.

According to the A-Section police station officer, police raided on a house near the Civil Center and arrested a drug dealer Saleem Jatoi and recovered 40 bottles of alcohol from his possession.

Meanwhile, his accomplices managed to escape from the spot.

Police lodged a case against him and his accomplices under relevant sections of the Law.

SUJ calls for
nationwide protest on October 9

The Sukkur Union of Journalists (SUJ) has decided to organise a nationwide demonstrations and particularly in front of the Sukkur press club on October 9 against retrenchments in the media, non-payment of salaries, unannounced censorship and registration of treason cases against media persons.

Reportedly, SUJ President Zaheer Asif Khan Lodhi presided over an emergent meeting with journalists and media persons including photographers and cameramen.

PFUJ Assistant Secretary Lala Asad Pathan said that the freedom of press has been under threat due to an unannounced censorship in Pakistan.

He gave a comprehensive briefing about certain decisions made during the meeting of Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the Abbottabad press club.

Subsequently, various committees were formed to make coalitions with lawyers, rights activists, media organisations, trade unions and other groups for inviting them to raise a collective voice for the protection of the freedom of expression.

The first 4-member committee comprising of SUJ President Zaheer Asif Khan Lodhi, general secretary Imdad Bozdar, press secretary Mujeeb Rind and vice-president Saleem Sehto are expected to meet lawyers, doctors, teachers, human rights organisations, WAPDA Hydro Electric Union, and other trade unions for informing them about certain threats being faced by the media in Pakistan and inviting them to participate in the protest.

Likewise, 7-member committee comprising of Jalal Uddin Bhaayo, Riaz Rajput, Jamil Somroo, Jahanzeb Waseer, Abdul Ghafoor Shaikh, Jawed Ghunio and Bux Ali will invite leaders of different political, social, trade and religious organisations to join the upcoming protest.

Another 7-member committee including Jawed Memon, Nadir Khan, Nasrullah Waseer, Sahrish Khokar, Bisma Waseem and Rabia Bhatti will welcome guests with honour.

Furthermore, regional units of SUJ will initiate demonstrations in their respective regions.
