The significance of goodbyes

Author: Nadia Ahmed Uqaili

No one ever really finds goodbyes easy, even if they are to mark the end of a tough job or experience. There is always at least one factor regarding the end of any situation that breaks your heart a little bit. This can be due to moving away, moving back or just a complete change in routine due to a new beginning.

Saying goodbye is hard but they show that we as humans are able to let go of things and move on

The characteristics of goodbyes make them quite unlikable; however, goodbyes always mark a significant point of growth in everyone’s lives. They show that we as humans, are able to let go of things, and are able to move on and are capable of being accepting change. Have you ever noticed how we need to let go of a bar first in order to get hold of the next one when we played on monkey bars as kids? Life works in the same way. It’s a road on which we’re moving forward with the clock constantly ticking. We make stops at places on the side of the road to further fill our basket of experiences. Without goodbyes, this journey cannot continue to form the glorious story that your life is meant to be. If you find it hard to say goodbye to things or people, think of it this way; if you want to eat bread but the only one you have at home has gone stale, would you still eat it, saying that you’re not ready to throw it away? The answer is no right? In the same way if your circumstances are signaling that you let go of a person, or an activity, don’t be hesitant, even if you find the change overwhelming. Do it anyways, because that is how you progress. Also, at the end of the day, if you find it hard to say goodbye, it means you’re truly blessed. Just remember A. A. Milne’s quote from ‘Winnie The Pooh,’ “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”
