PESHAWAR: The premises of Peshawar University have turned into a battle field after police resorted to baton-charge against the students protesting hike in fees by university administration.
The students were protesting against the increase in fees for M.Phil and PhD, saying that increase was not acceptable. Students urged the administration to revoke the decision.
Meanwhile, university administration said that the increase has been made after two years and it should not bother the students.
When student groups were peacefully protesting and demanding withdrawal of increase in fee the police resorted baton-charge against the students.
In case of baton-charge at least 28 students were arrested while five were reported injured. The injured students were shifted to the Khyber Teaching Hospital.
A statement by university administration stated that protesters were used to further political objectives.
“There will be no lenient treatment for those who are using this protest to promoting their political interests,” said university administration.
