LAHORE: Citizens as well as shopkeepers at several Sunday bazaars across the city have shown concern over what they describe as improper security arrangements at the bazaars.

They have urged authorities concerned to enhance security arrangements at “makeshift” bazaars

Talking to Daily Times, they said that police and security officers were present at entry gates but they did not bother to frisk incoming visitors properly which could become a cause of any untoward incident.

They said that departments concerned and government should increase the number of security guards and depute them in two shifts at least.

Security situation at Shadman Sunday Bazaar is no different as guards deputed there were seen busy in gossips wile no proper arrangements had been adopted on the backside entrance of the bazaar from Shama Chowk towards the bazaar.

When asked to comment, security guards refused to give any comment over the issue.

Meanwhile, citizens have also raised concern over security arrangements at Wahdat Colongy Model Bazaar. They said that several vendors had set up their stalls on handcarts in the surrounding area of the model bazaar and even in front of houses, posing a serious security threat. Locals said that they had time and again informed the administration of the bazaar and police to remove these makeshift stalls but their request fell on deaf ears.

They demanded Lahore mayor and deputy commissioner to take action and change the venue for setting up the bazaar.

Similarly, many vendors have illegally setup their stalls near Pak Polytechnic Institute, Moon Market Lahore, by paying Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 to the Samanabad administration.

It may be mentioned here that the rate list displayed at Wahdat Colony Model Bazaar bore nobody’s signatures.
