Journalists pay tribute to martyred colleague Ameer Bakhsh Brohi

The 15th death anniversary of a notable journalist Ameer Bakhsh Brohi, who was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Oct 3 in 2003, was observed in Shikarpur on Wednesday.

Reportedly, a large number of journalists including Rahmatullah Soomro, Sultan Rind, Agha Israr, Zahid Noon, Sarang Babar, Razaque Brohi, Javeed Rahojo, Waheed Brohi, Iqbal Sajjad and others gathered to express solidarity and unity with the late Ameer Bakhsh Brohi.

They stated that Brohi was one of the passionate, devoted and fearlessly honest journalists of his generation.

Meanwhile, they appealed to the provincial government of Sindh to ensure financial support for bereaved family members of Brohi.

Brohi was killed by unidentified armed men on New Fujdari road when he was on his way to his office after meeting police officials.

They also demanded concerned authorities to ensure effective measures in providing protection to journalists so they could discharge their professional duties without any fear and sense of insecurity.

Furthermore, they asked for allocating quota system for providing jobs to dependant family members of journalists and group insurance facility for journalists, besides compensation and financial assistance to families of journalists, who were murdered or expired during their duties.

Earlier, the journalists offered Fateha for the departed soul and showered flower petals on his grave.
