Prison Incharge Sheeba Shah welcomed the Minister on the occasion. Syeda Shehla Raza visited different sections of the prison and talked to women prisoners and their children. She was comprehensively briefed regarding the facilities provided at the prison and the vocational and technical training imparted to the women in prisons. She was also informed about the mechanisms in place for the provision of legal support to women.
On the occasion, Women Development Minister said that the government was planning a comprehensive program for the welfare and well being of female prisoners.
She added that the department was working on various projects which aimed to rehabilitate and facilitate women, especially female prisoners.
She said that all legal aid and support would be extended to the genuine cases of the women prisoners on a priority. She further said that she would personally listen the grievances and issues of women and take steps to resolve their issues.
“The department has also taken initiative to reactivate the complaint call and helpline 109,” she said.
“She would undertake the tour of other cities to monitor the cases,” she concluded.
Women Development Director Musarrat Jabeen and other relevant officials accompanied the minister on her visit.
