KARACHI: The Joint Nurses Action Committee, Sindh, has announced to observe a province-wide strike on Tuesday (today) in favour of their demands.

All the district representatives of Young Nurses Association (YNA) and Provincial Nurses Association (PNA) will gather at the Karachi Press Club to record their protest.

The nurses have been demanding promotion to higher grades, increase in allowances and stipend for students’ nurses.

In this connection, the Joint Nurses Action Committee Sindh on Monday observed a token strike at major hospitals of the province.

A protest demonstration followed by a rally was held at the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK). The rally started from Nursing Hostel, CHK and culminated at Emergency Department of the hospital after passing through Medical Superintendent Office, OPD Block and Surgical Block.

The nurses were carrying banners and placards inscribed with different slogans for acceptance of their demands. The nurses performed their duties wearing black armbands.

Speaking on the occasion, PNA, Karachi, President Salamti Khokhar said that paramedics boycotted their duties at CHK, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center, Sindh Government Qatar Hospital and other healthcares in favour of their demands.

“Nurses in Sindh had been deprived of time-scale promotions, while health, mess and dress allowances had also not been increased on the pattern of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and the federal government,” Khokhar stated.

She said that the stipend of student nurses had also not been enhanced on the pattern other provinces.

General Secretary, Provincial Nurses Association, Karachi, Abdul Wahid Rind, said that a complete boycott will be observed throughout the province.
