KHAIRPUR: Four members of a same family were killed and another person sustained critical bullet wounds on Friday in Ahmedpur area of Khairpur.

Reportedly, a retired military officer Ali Gul Sial opened fire on his wife Shahida Sial, two daughters Nail Sial and Shumaila Sial and sister-in-law Rani Sial.

Consequently, they died on the spot while the suspect’s uncle Mithal Sial sustained critical injuries.

Meanwhile, the Ahmedpur Police rushed to the crime spot and shifted deceased’s bodies and injured person to the Civil Hospital Khairpur for medical attention.

Scores of people gathered at the hospital and protested against its administration for delaying the process of autopsy.

Police have started investigation into the incident.

SALUTA aims to resolve issues of faculty members

The Shah Abdul Latif University Teachers Association’s (SALUTA) executive council on Friday held a consultative meeting with Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Parveen Shah to analyse issues pertaining to the faculty members.

Reportedly, SALUTA President Prof Ayaz Gul and General Secretary Prof Dr Ikhtiar Ghumro briefed VC about the current fiscal status of the university and expressed their grievances over an indefinite delay in salaries of the faculty members.

She asserted that she was committed to promote quality education and expressed profound concerns over delay in release of pension to retired faculty members.

She further ordered officers to resolve such issues on the priority basis.

The VC observed that the crippled financial situation was the major hurdle in resolution of certain issues of the university.

Later, she appreciated SALUTA and faculty members for their efforts in the time of need and vowed to coordinate for seeking financial bailout package and annual grants from the Government of Sindh to recover from crisis.

Besides, SALU Registrar Prof Dr Asad Raza Abidi was also present in the meeting.

SALU organises seminar on “Role of Youth in Climate Change Adaptation”

The Shah Abdul Latif University’s (SALU) departments of Sociology and Pakistan Studies on Friday jointly organised a one-day seminar on “Role of Youth in Climate Change Adaptation” in collaboration with the Islamic Relief Organisation at the SSC Hall of department of Pakistan Studies.

Reportedly, Agriculture Department Deputy Director Mushtaque Soomro, Prof Dr Waheed Panhwar and Zaheer Ahmed Ansari shed light on certain issues pertaining to adverse climate changes, and asserted that the seminar was extremely significant in the context of role of youth towards efficient management of environment-related hazards, challenges, threats and solutions.

Department of Pakistan Studies’ Head Inayatullah Bhatti said that the students were motivated to serve the motherland, but needed guidance and knowledge to play their critical role.

On the occasion Prof Siraj Soomro, Prof Basit Solangi, Prof Dastar Chandio and other faculty members also presented their views.

Meanwhile, the Institute of Islamic Studies organised a seminar on “Islam: The religion of peace and role of scholars from different schools of thought” at Adeeb Rizvi Hall of the faculty of Arts and Languages.

The seminar was held in the perspective of the World Peace Day and many speakers shed light on Islam as the religion of peace. Scholars from different schools of thought including Sarfaraz Korejo, Prof Dr Sajjad Raeesi, Dr Hassan Ali, Mufti Jamil Ahmed, Syed Asad Iqbal Zaidi and Mumtaz Hashmi attended the seminar and shared their feedback and research works.

Institute of Islamic Studies Director Zain-ul-Abdin Arijo briefed audience about viewpoint of the SALU and urged to organise such seminars.

Later, he thanked participants and guest of honour for participating and sharing their views in the seminar.
