Police informed the Sindh High Court (SHC) that eight more missing persons who had disappeared from different parts of the city had returned after months of disappearances.
Police on Thursday submitted a report before Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto who was hearing petitions regarding missing persons. “Eight people who had disappeared from various parts of the metropolis have returned,” submitted the police in their report. “A few of the recovered persons also appeared before the court today (Thursday),” the report read further.
“SHC’s efforts gave renewed hope to families of missing persons,” remarked Justice Phulpoto before proceeding to conclude the petitions of recovered missing persons.
Earlier, during the hearing, the SHC judge expressed dissatisfaction with the police’s performance in recovering the missing persons, especially Saifullah who had gone missing six years ago. “A man has been missing since 2012 and the police officials are least bothered about this,” said Justice Phulpoto. “What is the Sindh Inspector General (IG) doing? What are the deputy inspector generals (DIGs) doing about this?” questioned the SHC judge.
“If missing persons are not recovered then we will take strict action,” warned Justice Phulpoto, during the hearing. The SHC judge then issued directives to Sindh IG to personally take charge of the missing persons case. “Investigation officers cannot do much about this,” remarked the court.
The brother of a missing citizen Furqan Khan also recorded his statement before the court. The SHC then ordered that missing persons be recovered and a comprehensive report pertaining to the progress in recovering missing persons be submitted to the court within a time span of three weeks.
