GUJRANWALA: Robbers and thieves went on the rampage across the district of Gujranwala as a total of 23 incidents of armed robberies and burglaries were reported on Tuesday.
Reportedly, two bandits snatched Rs 100,000, gold ornaments and a mobile phone from a citizen Liaquat in the precinct of the Gakhar police station.
In another incident, unidentified armed robbers looted Rs 28,000, gold ornaments and a mobile phone from a woman in Gujranwala’s Ferozewala area.
Furthermore, bandits snatched Rs 350,000, gold ornaments and a cell phone from a citizen Fazil in Tatlewali area.
Moreover, burglars took away Rs 200,000 and a mobile phone from Yasir in the jurisdiction of the Sadar police station.
In another daylight robbery incident, dacoits snatched Rs 20,000, a motorcycle and a mobile phone from Zeeshan at gunpoint in Satellite town area. Additionally, two armed men broke into the house of a citizen Muqeem and looted Rs 400,000, three mobile phones, gold ornaments, and following the incident bandits robbed Rs 42,000 and a cell phone from a woman in Dhulley area.
Robbers looted Rs 63,000, gold ornaments and two mobiles from a citizen Farhan at gunpoint in Eminabad town.
Robbers seized Rs 27,000 and valuables from a shopkeeper Ishaq, and looted Rs 150,000 and a cell phone from another citizen Rafiq in the precinct of the Model Town police station.
Furthermore, armed men snatched Rs 70,000, a gold chain and cell phones from Zaheer in the precinct of the Sadar Wazirabad police station.
In other incidents reported, burglars sneaked into houses owned by Naveed, Arslan, Irfan, Faryad and Shah Hussain in several areas, stole valuables and gold ornaments, and managed to flee from spots.
Besides, armed men looted Rs 100,000, gold rings and a cell phone from another woman in the jurisdiction of the Baghbanpura police station.
Unidentified thieves robbed Rs 230,000, gold ornaments and cell phones from Qaiser in Ajmal town, and took away Rs 80,000 and a cell phone from Hanif in Tatlewali area.
Moreover, vehicles owned by Qasim, Waleed and Arshad were also stolen from different areas of the city.
Meanwhile, area police stations lodged cases of all these incidents and started investigations.
Anti-Corruption dept arrests a tax inspector for taking bribe
The Anti-Corruption Establishment’s (ACE) branch in Gujranwala on Wednesday arrested a tax inspector of the Municipal Committee (MC) Phalia of Mandi Bahauddin red-handed when he was caught taking bribe from an applicant.
Reportedly, a tax clerk Shoukat Ali filed an application with the ACE accusing tax inspector Muhammad Azam of the same MC of pressuring him to pay Rs 2000 to him on daily basis or otherwise, he could be dismissed from his job.
Meanwhile, ACE’s team raided on his office and caught him red-handed while receiving bribe.
Motorcyclist crushed to death as oil tanker overturns
A motorcyclist was crushed to death on Wednesday when an oil tanker veered off course and rolled over onto his bike on GT road near Pindi bypass in Gujranwala.
Reportedly, Motorway police and rescue 1122 team rushed to the spot and halted oil spill from the tanker, and subsequently shifted the deceased to a hospital for medical attention.
