ISLAMABAD: The government has approved a resolution from parliament to improve the performance of PTV to divert attention from the sexual harassment scandal in PTV.

Treasury member Begum Tahira Bukhari tabled the resolution in the National Assembly (NA) on Tuesday to improve the performance of PTV. The resolution was adopted with consensus after counting.

Parliamentary secretary for information and broadcasting Mohsin Shah Nawaz Ranjha said all the political parties have expressed their confidence on the performance of PTV.

Shazia Marri stood up, but the speaker asked her to speak on a point of order. She said women employees in PTV were working in a state of harassment. The performance of this institution is next to nil. Inhuman treatment is being meted out to women therein, she added.

“We are raising question about efficiency of this institution. I condemn it what treatment has been meted out to women there,” she held.

“How indifferent and insensitive is government to this matter that no investigation has been carried out against the officials involved in what has happened with female anchorpersons in PTV,” she questioned.

Ranjha said the government has taken action against them.

Shazia said women were insecure in PTV and they are being exploited. The PTV director current affairs is still working and no inquiry has been held against him. “I strongly protest against it,” she added. The speaker switched off her mike.

“We floated calling attention notice on this matter but no action has been taken in this respect,” she said.

The speaker said the state minister for information has assured that action would be initiated against those involved in this matter.

Ranjha said the director current affairs has been barred from performing his duty. Shazia said the matter is being hushed up and pressure is being mounted on the women anchors that they should withdraw their case. The speaker said he would take action with reference to it.
