GUJRANWALA: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Shoaib Tariq Warriach on Tuesday presided over a high-level consultative meeting aimed at curbing air pollution at high traffic zones and restricting stubble burning to prepare for the coming winter’s anti-smog efforts in Gujranwala.
Reportedly, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Kanwal Batool, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr Rabia Riasat, Assistant Commissioner (AC) Hinna Arshad, Environment Protection Department (EPD) Director Waseem Ahsan, representatives of various industries, and officials of municipal corporations and other concerned departments participated in the meeting to formulate an effective approach for battling smog in wake of environmental crisis.
The DC vowed to initiate the anti-smog campaign on the priority basis and ordered officers of district administration, police, environment, municipal corporations, Regional Transport Authority (RTA), traffic police and other departments to play an active role.
Moreover, he urged them to organise awareness campaigns to educate people for preventing air pollution and take legal action against anybody who violates rules.
In particular, traffic police officers were directed to take a stern action against smoke-emitting vehicles and minimize traffic congestion.
Punjab govt extends computerisation of arms licence till Oct 31
The Punjab government on Tuesday extended deadline of revalidation and computerisation of arms licence till October 31, 2018, according to DC Dr Shoaib Tariq Warriach.
Reportedly, he asserted that after the deadline, remaining licences would be cancelled immediately.
Every licence-holder is required to get his licence revalidated through a computerised verification system or otherwise, the district administration would submit a list of the invalidated arms with the home department for an appropriate action.
