Amnesty International on Monday called for the immediate release of human rights activist Muhammad Hayat Khan Preghal.

Preghal, Pashtun Tahafuz Movement’s (PTM) founding member, was allegedly detained from his home in Dera Ismael Khan on July 5 this year.

According to the Amnesty International, Preghal has been charged for comments he made online that were critical of Pakistani state policies.

“Preghal is a vocal supporter of the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM),” read an official statement of the organistion.

The amnesty international calling for Preghal’s ‘immediate’ and ‘unconditional’ release claimed that the later was detained ‘solely for peacefully exercising his right to freedom of expression’.

The PTM leaders have also been engaged in dialogues with the government for the recovery of Preghal.
